a milestone year

2016-2017 Annual Report

A letter from our President

While we experienced a milestone year, there is one important item that did not change: the mission to honor God by Providing a continuum of excellent care and support services, primarily for older adults.

Our mission demands we continually evaluate the best way to serve residents and guests - whether that's in Lincoln, IL or Myanmar.

A new strategic plan will be completed in Fiscal Year 2018 - it will be mission driven so that all those entrusted to our care may live and age better.

Celebrate with us all the good changes in the milestone Fiscal Year of 2017!

By any measure fiscal year 2017 was a milestone year

New CFO Named

The Board of Directors begin searching for a new CEO to succeed Dr. Phillippe after his retirement

The new name was made public on January 25. Along with the name, came new signage, collateral, and most importantly a new, dynamic website - ChristianHorizonsLiving.org

At the direction of the Board and Dr. Phillippe, a team was tasked with finding a new corporate name that better described the growth of our organization and the ever-changing nature of senior health care.

Christian Horizons was approved as the new corporate name by the Board of Directors at the fall meeting. The new name embodies our expanding vision as we look confidently to the future of faith-based senior living. A New Pathway was approved as the new tagline.

Jake Bell accepted the position in October. Jake was named the President and COO. Following his acceptance, he and Dr. Phillippe worked closely together to ensure a smooth transition.

Christian Horizons extended its mission internationally by partnering with Myanmar Hope Christian Mission. The goal is to provide a new pathway to well-being for older adults in Myanmar. Scroll down for more details!

On June 30, Dr. Phillippe retired and Jake Bell became CEO on July 1, 2017.

Susan McGhee ended her 10-year tenure and Chuck Schmitz was named the new CFO.

Extending our mission internationally

Hope on the Horizon

For Myanmar’s most vulnerable

Christian Horizons (CH) is extending its mission internationally by partnering with Myanmar Hope Christian Mission (MyHope) to provide a new pathway to well-being for older adults in Myanmar.

our commitment continues

Dr. Phillippe Leaves Mission-Oriented Legacy

Dr. Tim Phillippe came to Christian Horizons (CH), formerly Christian Homes Inc., in 2001. Under his leadership, the company has thrived. “Without question, the restoration of Christian Horizons’ financial health has been the single most important achievement during Dr. Phillippe’s leadership,” says Board Chairmen Ron Sewell.

With a vision and passion for this ministry, Dr. Phillippe worked with the Board of Directors to start a new position - VP Mission Integration. “The Board of Directors wants to make sure that Christian Horizons’ legacy is respected and fostered. The new

position will be important in maintaining our traditional values and behaviors in the policy decisions of the board, in dealing with employees and in our services to our residents,” Sewell explains. The goal is to have a culture that reflects the mission and spirit of our Christian heritage, through the daily work of each employee.

Dr. Phillippe announced his retirement in 2015. He understood the need of a great succession plan. After much consideration, the board offered the position to Jake Bell. Upon the announcement, Dr. Phillippe noted, “Jake Bell’s broad experience with all aspects of faith-based senior living is a good fit with CH culture.” Ron Sewell continues, “Jake Bell possesses a great blend of leadership and mission awareness that will be important in increasing our influence and maintaining Christian Horizons standing in the senior living industry.” Jake became CEO July 1, 2017.

Three of our communities recently changed their names:

Fair Havens Christian Village • Shawnee Christian Village • Wabash Christian Village

CH has implemented these changes to create consistency with our other communities that have “Christian Village” as part of their names. These three communities have expanded their levels of care in recent years and are more than just nursing homes. The new names can be used to describe the current range of services offered by each community today.
